Visiting Hours by David Caudle Is there a limit to a parent’s love? After a long and unexplained absence, Paul and his new girlfriend, Shelly, abruptly force their way back into the makeshift home of his estranged parents, Beth and Marian, threatening to destroy what remains of their fragile union.

Directed by John Wooten. With Kathleen Butler, Colleen Finnegan, Lianne Kressin, Holly Logue and Mark David Watson.

"LIKENESS ran at Manhattan Theatre Source in January. Here's what was said:

"There are parallel plots running through David Caudle's new play, Likeness. One is political and one is artistic. The first is about the smoldering resentment of the American colonists toward the Stamp Act passed by the British Parliament, which imposed a tax on all printed paper. The second deals with artistic integrity. Yet, with all this high-mindedness, Likeness is straightforward, down-to-earth entertainment, with some very good performances." Jo Ann Rosen, nytheatre.com

"Set a few years after the French and Indian war, the play crackles with well observed dialogue, understated sexuality and truths about what it means to be an American then and now." Laura Rohrman, the Greenwich Village Examiner (www.examiner.com)

LIKENESS had its World Premiere at New Theatre in Miami last fall. (Carbonell Nominee for Best New Work). LIKENESS was developed at the New Harmony Project 2006, and at Primary Stages, where David Caudle is a member of the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group.

"Likeness begins with a straightforward question — Should a struggling artist sometimes compromise his integrity to further his career? — and ends by colliding head-on with the eternal verities. ... the virtue of honor, the wisdom of pragmatism, the nature of beauty, the beauty of truth, the allure of servility, the commingled love and fascism of certain kinds of father-daughter relationships, and the ultimate dominion of women over their husbands. Playwright David Caudle has much to say about all of these things, and he has the talent to let his characters say all of it in their own voices. " Brandon K. Thorp, MIAMI NEW TIMES

"...another brilliant piece of writing from Miamian-turned-New Yorker David Caudle, who turned to the turbulent times of pre-Revolutionary War Boston to explore idealism versus reality. ...but it is really not a historical drama. It is, however, a tale about family, economic class consciousness, and, of course, the honesty of an artist..." Ron Levitt, Entertainment News and Views
